Lucy Lambert Watterson Back 1923 ~ 2011

Lucy Lambert Watterson Back, age 87, passed away February 14, 2011 in West Jordan, Utah. She was born May 22, 1923 in Hanna, Utah to Clyde Lambert and Martha Rhoades Lambert. Her father was a forest ranger. The family moved to Wyoming for awhile, then back to Altonah, Utah where Lucy grew up. She married Cleon C. Watterson and they had three sons: Steven Cleon, Gary Clyde, and Mark Chase. During World War II both Lucy and Cleon worked at the Bethlehem Steel shipyards and lived in San Pedro, California. They moved to Salt Lake City, in 1950. Her marriage to Cleon ended in divorce. A few years later she met Jack Howard Back at an LDS singles program. She and Jack were married in 1963. Lucy worked as a secretary at Owens Corning Fiberglass for 21 years. After she retired she worked at Beehive Clothing in the LDS church distribution department for 18 years. She was active in the LDS church and served many callings faithfully. Lucy loved to sew and was an expert seamstress. Some of her quilts were truly works of art. She also loved gardening. Her yard was a showplace. Especially beautiful were the peonies she grew. She and Jack loved the outdoors and spent much of their leisure time in the mountains. She and Jack working together built a beautiful mountain home overlooking Soldier Creek Reservoir. She was preceded in death by Jack in 2002, and by two of her sons: Gary Watterson and Mark Watterson. She is survived by her son Steven (Sherry) Watterson, and two stepdaughters, Shirley (Lynn) Christensen and Pamela (Melvin) Myers. She has many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her funeral will be held at the Wasatch Lawn Mortuary, 3401 South Highland Drive at 12:00 noon on Saturday, February 19, 2011. There will be a viewing one hour prior to the services.
