Rachel Grant Alsop 1915 ~ 2011

Rachel Grant Alsop died January 15, 2011, of natural causes at St. Joseph's Villa in Salt Lake City, Utah. She was 95 years old. Rachel was born February 6, 1915, in Bountiful, Utah, to Carter Eldredge Grant and Pamela Smith Grant. She was one of ten children. Rachel graduated from Jordan High in Salt Lake County and shortly thereafter married Clifton Ray Alsop in June of 1933 in the Salt Lake Temple. Their marriage lasted over 70 years until Clif's death in 2004. Rachel and Clif had two daughters, Shirlene and Lesa. Rachel was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She was good to everyone and was always kind. She gave unconditional love to her grandchildren. She supported her husband, Clif, in his education and worked with him in his businesses. Rachel and Clif built two beautiful homes in Sandy and Murray. The backyard pools provided a meeting place and playground for the extended family and grand-children. Rachel was a faithful member of the LDS church. She enjoyed her time as president of the Sandy First Ward Relief Society very much. During World War II she worked at the Remington Rand Arms Plant in Salt Lake County. Later in life Rachel took up watercolor painting and produced many beautiful canvases. She taught water coloring to friends and family for a number of years. Rachel is survived by her daughter Lesa Hertel (Marv); her grandchildren Brett Stevens, Tad Stevens, Steven Cutler, John Cutler and Camila Romney (Dale); seven great-grand-children; and three great-great- grandchildren. Rachel is predeceased by her husband Clifton Ray Alsop and her daughter Shirlene Alsop Cutler (Clifford). The viewing will be held at the Chevy Chase Ward, 5290 South 1100 East, Murray, Utah, on Friday, January 21, at 11:30 a.m. The funeral will immediately follow at 1 p.m. at the same location.
