OREM — A Salt Lake City man was arrested Monday after police say he purchased and used a young child's social security number.

At the time of arrest, Martin Estrada-Urcino, 26, told police he purchased the number when he entered the country eight years ago, to gain employment, according to an affidavit filed in Provo's 4th District Court.

The mother of the child, an Orem resident, discovered the misuse last month when she was seeking assistance from Workforce Services, police say. Through investigation, they discovered that Estrada-Urcino had been using the number and had earned nearly $10,000 from the Layton Roofing Company and $2,400 from Brady Roofing this year under the alleged identification.

Estrado-Urcino is being held for investigation of identity fraud and will have his first hearing Sept. 28.
