Firefighters were battling a lightning-caused wildfire near Cedar City Monday night.

A U.S. Forest Service news release said the North Fork fire was estimated at five to 10 acres as of 8 p.m. Monday. It was burning in steep terrain about 24 miles southeast of Cedar City.

Fire crews from the Color Country Fire Management Area were sent to the scene after an initial aerial attack proved ineffective. Helicopters, engines and hand-crews were expected to continue working toward containment.

The fire is being managed by the State of Utah Division of Forestry, Fire and State Lands.
