AMERICAN FORK — A 42-year-old woman lost control of the sport utility vehicle she was driving and crashed into the back of an Olive Garden restaurant Wednesday night.

American Fork Police Sgt. Gregg Ludlow said the SUV was traveling south on State Street around 10 p.m. when it "failed to negotiate a curve in the road," left the road and crashed into the back corner of the restaurant at 538 W. Main.

After the car jumped the curb, it traveled approximately 50 feet across a sidewalk and grass before hitting the building, Ludlow said.

Investigators believe the accident was possibly medically related. Drugs and alcohol have been ruled out, Ludlow said.

Witnesses said the woman was speeding. She was treated at the scene by medical crews, and police cited her with reckless endangerment.

The crash caused some structural damage to the restaurant's restrooms and one of the dining room walls, said Olive Garden spokeswoman Heidi Schauer.

No one in the building was injured in the accident, Schauer said. The soonest the restaurant will reopen is Saturday, she said.
