MIDVALE — Three people were arrested over the weekend in what police believe was a gang-related shooting. No one was injured.

The evening began for police on Friday about 11:15 p.m. when rival gang members confronted each other in the parking lot of an apartment complex near 7400 S. State, said Midvale Police Sgt. Jason Norton.

Two men allegedly chased a third man and fired at least one shot from what witnesses described as either a shotgun or rifle, Norton said. The victim ran through a friend's apartment to get away. Police were called to the area after the shot was fired.

Just before 3:30 a.m. Saturday, an officer was just leaving a convenience store when he heard what he thought were two gunshots in the same area as the first incident, Norton said. The officer spotted a car leaving the area and pulled it over.

Inside the vehicle, the officer found a rifle and two shell casings, Norton said. Detectives were still investigating Monday whether the two incidents are related.

William Cantarero, 20, was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail for investigation of discharging a firearm and a restricted person being in possession of a firearm. Rosa Monago was booked for investigation of two counts of firing a weapon from a moving vehicle and obstruction of justice. Roberto Guzman was arrested for investigation of a drug-related charge.
