The three-time defending Pioneer League champion Salt Lake Trappers hold their first workout of the 1988 season Friday at 9 a.m. at Derks Field under new Manager Barry Moss, who was coach for Jim Gilligan during The Streak season last year.

Because the major league baseball teams held an unusually large draft, going some 40 rounds and 1,400 players deep, the Trappers' roster is far less set than it has been in the past. There are six players signed - catcher Bill Fellows, who joined the Traps briefly last year, former Idaho Falls outfield Jeff Allison, third baseman Carry Shaw of University of South Carolina, Anderson (ndiana) University outfielder Richard Herni, who hit .441 in college; right-handed Cal State-San Bernadino pitcher Dean Tanner, and Arizona outfielder Patrick Waid.

The Trappers will work out once daily following Friday, with the practices at noon at Derks Field. Opening day is June 20 at Butte. The home opener is June 23 against Idaho Falls.
