• Take up beekeeping as a hobby in your back yard. There are half as many beekeepers today as two decades ago. Join a local beekeeping association for insider tricks on how to make your hobby a success.
• Plant a flower and produce garden with plenty of pollen and nectar to attract bees. Keep part of it wild, because bees prefer that to manicured space.
• Avoid chemical pesticides. Some pesticides can kill the bee before it returns to the hive. Others get carried back and cause harm for the rest of the hive.
• Support honeybee research.
