Winner: The UTAH Cardiac Transplant program this week became one of fewer than 10 programs worldwide to have provided 1,000 heart transplants. The program, which partners four area hospitals, began on March 8, 1985. One thousand is a good, round number, but it doesn't begin to describe the joy of lives saved and health restored.

Loser: As with many Utahns, we're still trying to understand how an F-16 fighter jet could have accidentally opened fire on a rented SUV during a recent exercise on the Utah Test and Training Range. Luckily, the drivers got out of the vehicle with only minor injuries. In an age where the United States boasts the most sophisticated military equipment in history, one would hope there are safeguards against such things.
