Additional public meetings to discuss the proposed Lake Powell pipeline project have been planned because of high interest, the Utah Division of Water Resources director Dennis Strong announced Thursday.

The meetings will be held Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. at the Dixie Center in St. George and Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. at the Crystal Inn in Cedar City.

In an attempt to stave off water shortages, a proposal is on the table to build a pipeline from Lake Powell to the Sand Hollow Reservoir near Cedar City. Critics contend the project will cost too much.
