Your editorial bemoans the plight of the uninsured, noting that "many of them (are the) self-employed." The Deseret News could play a role equal to its influence by putting pressure on providers of health insurance to create a "group" of the self-employed. The self-employed include many Realtors, insurance agents, farmers, contractors, attorneys, etc. Currently they must individually apply for insurance, then be rated according to individual health conditions. This creates astronomical rates. Treating them as a group would allow for standardized rates.

Assuming the resulting premiums were reasonable, this single action would vastly reduce the number of uninsured. I urge the Deseret News editorial board to promote this action among insurers.
