A man who reportedly didn't like the looks another man was giving his date was arrested after police say he stabbed the staring bystander.

Just after 2 a.m. Sunday, a 37-year-old man got into an argument near 2000 West and 3500 South with a 33-year-old man whom he claimed was looking at his date wrong, said West Valley police Capt. Tom McLachlan.

The 37-year-old man's date was 16, he said.

During the fight, the man took out a knife and cut the victim's ear, McLachlan said.

The attacker was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail. The teenage date's parents were contacted and picked up their daughter, while the man who was stabbed refused to be transported to the hospital, he said.
