If LaVarr Webb (April 6) is correct that the Republican philosophy regarding public education is to not "toss more money at it," I note that they have succeeded beyond their wildest expectations. How does this philosophy translate? If a man is starving to death, don't give him more food? Take part of the food that he might have used and give it to someone else?

Public education in Utah isn't failing. It is being slowly starved to death by politicians. Mr. Webb's "status quo" is the Republican plan which has been with us since the end of WWII. It seems to not be working very well.
