For China to condemn recent protests of the torch relay as a "politicization" of the Olympics is hypocritical. Politics has everything to do with it. From the beginning, the Summer Olympics have been a political public relations campaign for China. However, it has failed to divert the world's attention from its human rights abuses in Tibet and Sudan. The growing worldwide protests are proof.

In the past two months, the violence in Sudan has killed hundreds of innocent civilians. China, a country with extensive political and economic links to Sudan, must fulfill its obligations as a world power and set a moral example for the rest of the international community. As host for the Summer Olympics, it must represent the common values shared by the world community and utilize its influence in Sudan to serve the cause of justice. Until China fulfills these obligations, may the protests continue.
