Clark Planetarium celebrates its fifth anniversary today by showing off two new exhibits and hosting an 11 a.m. event that will include a competition for fifth graders and remarks by Salt Lake County Mayor Peter Corroon and former U.S. Sen. Jake Garn.
New exhibit "Science on a Sphere" uses a six-foot diameter sphere illuminated by video projectors that make the sphere look like Earth as seen from space. NASA and other satellite images can be animated to show weather and other patterns.
The other new exhibit is ATK Launch Systems' "Project Constellation" exhibit, highlighting the new Crew Launch and Cargo Launch vehicles that will be the backbone of the future of human space exploration.
Also as part of the anniversary, the planetarium is offering $5 tickets to its IMAX and planetarium theater shows through April.
The planetarium is at 110 S. 400 West at the Gateway.
