The Alpine School Board raised the fee for high school students who participate in drill team from $300 to $450 at its Tuesday meeting.

The change will be implemented this fall and matches the participation fee that cheerleaders pay.

"Drill-team advisers felt like they needed (the extra money) to really compete and buy costumes and props," said Rhonda Bromley, the district's spokeswoman. The advisors "were all really in favor of it."

The $150 hike was the only student fee that will see an increase in the coming school year.

"Whatever they are doing out there in the schools to keep a dollar here and a dollar there from coming out of the parents' pocket, I really do appreciate," said board member Christine Hanneman during the meeting.
