The fifth annual Spice on Ice Chef Cook-off gave Chef of the Year honors to Scott Northridge of Blackstone, a Logan steak and seafood restaurant.

The event, held at the George S. Eccles Ice Center, raises money for the Logan ice arena. Blackstone took first place in both the Judge's and People's Choice categories. Kamin Thai Cuisine and Indian Oven placed second and third, respectively in the Judge's Choice category. In the People's Choice, Cafe Sabor took second place and Indian Oven took third place.

The spring Downtown Dine O'Round is set for May 2-17. During those two weeks, 33 Salt Lake City restaurants will serve a special three-course dinner for either $15 or $30 per person. Half of these dining spots are also offering a two-course lunch menu for $10 per person. Three new downtown restaurants joining the Downtown Dine O'Round are Baxter's American Restaurant, I Love Sushi and Lazy Dog Pizzeria (www.dineoround.com).

Market Street restaurants are hosting a Halibut Festival through May. The restaurants are serving fresh wild Alaskan halibut in many variations, including Halibut Louie, Halibut Oscar, and Halibut Fish & Chips. Whole Foods/Wild Oats, 645 E. 400 South, will host an Earth Day Celebration April 19 from noon-5 p.m. Customers can enjoy an outdoor grilled lunch, live African drumming, free bike tune-ups and storewide sampling. A kid's activity class is at 2 p.m. The public may bring old electronic equipment for responsible e-recycling.

Bambara has named Barbara Barker as its new director of catering. Barker's experience includes managing catering for trade shows, seminars, board meetings, and so on.
