Entries are now being taken for Utah County's first two major golf tournaments.

The Watts Automotive Fox Hollow Open is set for April 19-20 and the Spanish Oaks Open is scheduled for May 3-4. Both events are Utah Golf Association PPR tournaments.

The 36-hole tournament at Fox Hollow (formerly Tri-City golf course in American Fork) has a competition for professionals and three divisions for amateurs. The first-place check for pros will be $2,500. Last year Zach Johnson and Mark Owen tied and shared the top prize, which was $1,800. However, the overall winner last year was amateur Dustin Pimm, who has since turned professional. It's unknown whether Pimm will be in the field to defend his title.

The amateur divisions this year are 0-6 handicap (gross only), 7-12 handicap (net only) and 13-18 handicap (net only). There will be two shotgun starts each day at 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. Each division will accept 50 entries with a fee of $90 per player. Send entries (with handicap, course number and card number) to Fox Hollow pro Rick Roberts at 1400 N. 200 East, American Fork, Utah, 84003. For more information call the Fox Hollow pro shop at 756-3594.

The 36-hole Spanish Oaks Open features a similar format, with a professional division and three amateur divisions. The first-place check for pros this year will be $1,500. The top money last year went to Glenwild professional Shawn Edwards, even though amateur Daniel Summerhays took home the trophy with a two-day total of 13-under par. Summerhays is now professional and won't be back to defend.

New this year are lower handicaps for the three amateur divisions. Spanish Oaks pro Aaron Brown, recognizing the challenge of competing with today's long list of scratch golfers, has dropped the top handicap from the championship division from a 6 handicap down to 4, meaning those playing in the gross-only division will be those with a 4 handicap and less. Those with handicaps from 5 to 10 will be in the first division and will compete net only. Those with handicaps from 11 to 18 will also compete in a net-only division. The professionals and championship amateurs will tee off Saturday at 8:30 a.m. and Sunday at 2:30 p.m. The two net-only amateur flights will tee off opposite those times. Paid entries of $80 (with handicap, course and card number) should be mailed to Spanish Oaks at 2300 Powerhouse Road, Spanish Fork, Utah, 84660.
