WOMEN'S TENNIS: At Indianapolis, the T-birds beat UMKC 5-0 Saturday evening to earn a split on the day and clinch a spot in The Summit League tournament coming up later this month. SUU bounced back from an earlier 4-2 loss to conference newcomer IPFW, taking four singles points and the doubles point against the Kangaroos.
SOFTBALL: At New Palestine, Ind., SUU and IUPUI split a softball double-header Saturday, with IUPUI taking a 4-1 win in the first game and the Thunderbirds coming back with a 9-0 win in game two. SUU improved to 7-4 in Summit League play and 12-25 overall while IUPUI picked up its first conference win of the season in moving to 1-7 and 2-15.
BASEBALL: The T-birds used a seven-run first inning to eventually capture a 10-8 victory over the IPFW Mastodons on Saturday afternoon in Cedar City. The win splits the series between the two teams with SUU improving to 13-13 and IPFW dropping to 6-17-1.
"I was happy about how we continued to have strong at bats after that seven-run inning," head coach David Eldredge. "I think we got a little too relaxed in the first game this series when we were up early, but did a much better job today."
