A month-and-a-half-long investigation into a possible drug house culminated with the arrests of a husband and wife in Salt Lake City Thursday.

The couple also had two children, aged 10 and 14, who were taken into protective custody.

The investigation began about 45 days ago when Salt Lake County Sheriff's investigators received a tip during the course of another investigation about a drug house in Salt Lake, said sheriff's detective Scott Van Wagoner.

"We tracked our problem to their house," he said.

An undercover detective made several drug buys from the house over the next month, Van Wagoner said.

A SWAT team executed a search warrant early Thursday at a house near 1600 South and 50 East. Inside, investigators found 9 ounces of cocaine, 6 pounds of marijuana and $127,000 cash, Van Wagoner said.

Four vehicles, including three SUVs, were seized. Investigators believed the man was self-employed, with drug dealing being his main source of income.

There was also some gang paraphernalia found in the house, suggesting a possible gang tie with the residents, Van Wagoner said.

Felipe Salgado, 40, and 23-year-old Toni Carrera were arrested and booked into the Salt Lake County Jail for investigation of drug possession.
