A man choked a dog to death after it attacked his brother inside a Fairpark-area home.
Salt Lake police said the choking happened early Wednesday at a home near 800 West and 400 North when a 30-year-old man put his girlfriend's pit bull on their back porch area because it was barking. When the barking didn't stop, police said the man tried to let the dog out into the back yard when it attacked.
"The dog had the victim by the hand and was not letting go," police said in a summary of the incident. "The victim's brother tried to get the dog to release his brother by punching the dog. When that did not work, he attempted to stab the dog. He finally placed the dog in a chokehold until the dog expired."
When police responded to 911 calls, they found the 25-year-old brother on the kitchen floor holding the dog in a chokehold and blood, mainly from the victim's hand, was everywhere. The victim was taken to a local hospital to be treated for his injuries.
Salt Lake County Animal Services took the dog's body.
