Albertsons plans to close two of its Utah grocery stores, in Layton and South Jordan.

The Albertsons at 2076 N. Main, Layton, and one at 3709 W. South Jordan Parkway, South Jordan, are both slated to close on April 17, the company said in a news release.

Albertsons said the decision to close the stores was guided by what company leaders thought was best for Albertsons' ongoing success and future growth. The company said it will try to place the employees of the two stores into other area locations where there are openings.

Albertsons — which is owned by Supervalu Inc., based in Eden Prairie, Minn., — operates 544 stores nationwide, including 46 in Utah. Supervalu has 2,500 stores across the nation.
