A 7-Eleven clerk took matters into his own hands — or fists — over the weekend when two men tried to steal beer from his store.

Just before 2 a.m. Sunday the clerk saw two men attempting to leave with beer they had grabbed from the cooler of the store located at 175 E. 800 South.

The clerk intercepted the duo at the door, at which time a 26-year-old suspect "squared off with him in a fighting stance," according to a police report.

The fight didn't last long. The clerk punched the suspect in the face, knocking him out and sending him to the ground, police said. The other man grabbed the beer and ran.

Investigators continued looking for the other suspect Monday.
