Rescuers searched for a woman believed to be thrown from a car that rolled on state Route 201 — only to discover she was never there.

Utah Highway Patrol troopers said a man driving a PT Cruiser rolled it around 1:28 a.m. Friday near the I-215 on-ramp.

"He was saying to the officers that his girlfriend had been in the car with him. They started looking around for her," UHP Trooper Cameron Roden said Friday.

Searchers even put a raft in a nearby retention pond to search for the woman. Authorities believe the woman was never there. The man was taken to the hospital to be treated for his injuries. He is expected to be cited for DUI, Roden said.
