Countrywide Home Loans is offering an interest-rate break for loans used to purchase new homes that are built to meet recognized environmental and energy efficiency standards.

The Green Incentive Program will initially be available to qualified homebuyers in 13 states, including Utah, the lender said in a news release this week. The program provides an interest-rate reduction of 0.125 percent for homes that meet third-party, certified standards of recognized green building programs, including Energy Star, Earth Advantage, LEED for Homes and Built Green programs of local home builder associations, as well as the National Association of Home Builder's Green Building program.
