Dale Christensen (Readers' Forum, March 20) incorrectly stated that John McCain never repudiated anti-Catholic and other controversial statements by the evangelical pastor John Hagee, who had endorsed McCain.

In fact, McCain declared, "In no way did I intend for his endorsement to suggest that I in turn agree with all of Pastor Hagee's views, which I obviously do not."

Sen. McCain clearly should have done more homework before accepting the Rev. Hagee's endorsement, but unlike Barack Obama — who denied for almost a year that he had ever heard his hard-core black nationalist pastor say anything controversial — he promptly repudiated Hagee's offensive opinions.
