A Salt Lake landlord has been charged with holding a tenant at knifepoint inside an apartment last weekend.

The 68-year-old man cut the power to the woman's apartment and later threatened to cut her through with a knife, according to charges filed Tuesday in 3rd District Court.

The man held the woman, 52, inside an apartment near 900 West and 1500 North for more than two hours before she escaped uninjured, police said. It took four hours and a tear-gas cannister to get the man out of the apartment.

The man has been charged with first-degree felony aggravated kidnapping, third-degree felony aggravated assault and interference with an arresting officer, a class B misdemeanor.
