CEDAR CITY — Competition proved to be tight Monday evening between the No. 30 BYU gymnastics team and No. 28 SUU, as both teams landed a solid 195.000 to tie.

"We did well tonight and we are really excited," said BYU assistant coach Dawn Cattermole. "It was one of those meets where we had to fight for every tenth, but we are happy with the outcome."

"This is the first time ever that I have been a part of a tie at the end of a gymnastics meet," SUU Scott Bauman said. "However, I'm proud of the way this team fought tonight. Our floor team is beginning to look like if we are in trouble in any meet situation that they will be able to give us a win on any given night."

Senior Dayna Smart-Allen helped the Cougars land their second-highest overall score of the season. She claimed three of four individual titles with her performances throughout the meet.

"Dayna (Smart-Allen) did well and that helped us out tonight," Cattermole said.

Cattermole said the last time the Cougars tied in a meet was in a meet against Utah State more than 15 years ago. Tie or not, Cattermole is pleased with BYU's posting.

"This score will definitely help our regional qualifying score," Cattermole said. "And we will have another chance to improve and get ready for Regionals on Friday."

BYU will compete again this week when the Cougars travel to face the University of Arizona Cal State Fullerton in a tri-meet this Friday.

The meet will start at 7:30 p.m. MDT at Arizona.
