Fire investigators sift through the remains of a house in Cottonwood Heights Tuesday after an early morning fire. Eleven people, including eight children, escaped safely from the two-alarm blaze. Fire crews arrived at the burning house, near 7500 South and 2000 East, just after 1 a.m. to find fire coming from the garage, up the side of the house and from the roof. Neighbors said they were alerted to the fire after hearing a series of loud pops or bangs. They estimated the children who lived in the house were from 11 months to 12 years old and said many of them were refugees from Jordan who were living there until they could get their own home.
