WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: Weber States' Sara Tuomi was named to the Big Sky Conference first team it was announced Tuesday.


BASEBALL: Utah junior catcher Cody Guymon has been named Mountain West Conference Player of the Week.

Guymon, a Livermore, Calif., product, hit .667 (8-for-12) on the week, with three doubles, three RBIs and six runs scored, helping the Utes to a three-game series sweep over Southern Utah. Guymon also turned in a .917 slugging percentage and .733 on-base percentage (.733) vs. the Thunderbirds, while extending his hitting streak to 10 games.

On Monday, the Utes' Dustin Hennis hit a grand slam home run in going 5-for-5 with seven RBIs this afternoon, helping Utah romp past Portland in the first game of the Pepsi Johnny Quick Tournament, 18-1, at Fresno, Calif.

Corey Shimada and Cody Guymon each went 3-for-4 with an RBI for the Utes (4-7 overall). Andrew Wilding picked up the win, allowing five hits with three strikeouts.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: The Aggies (9-19, 5-11 WAC) will enter the Western Athletic Conference Tournament as the seventh-seed and will take on second-seed Boise State (22-6, 14-2 WAC) in the quarterfinals on Wednesday, Tip-off is scheduled for 8:30 p.m. MDT at New Mexico State's Pan American Center (13,071) in Las Cruces, N.M.

GOLF: Devin Daniels (Hyde Park) has been named the WAC men's golfer of the week it was announced Tuesday.

TENNIS: Utah State defeated Portland State, 4-3, Sunday afternoon in Logan. The Aggies improve to 4-9 on the season, while the Vikings fall to 4-8 overall.

LACROSSE: BYU (3-3) got back on track against Michigan State on Saturday with an 18-6 win on the RB Turf Field. The

Cougars were lead by junior attackman Justin Hier and senior attackman Josh Austin who each tallied 7 points on the day.


SOFTBALL: Salt Lake Community College swept Colorado Northwestern College moving their record to 18-4 overall and 10-2 in Scenic West Conference play. Friday's games were 8-0 and 9-0 wins. On Saturday, the scores were 15-3 and 24-3.

BASEBALL: The Bruins (15-5, 8-0) took four games from College of Eastern Utah. Scores were 9-1, 2-1, 10-0 and 9-1. SLCC takes on Western Nevada team at Cate Field on Friday and Saturday.
