PHOENIX — Paradise Valley police arrested a man after two Utah residents were stabbed at a resort.

Police said Juan Alberto Castelo, 22, of El Mirage fled a traffic stop about 3 a.m. Saturday, ran into a resort and stabbed two guests. Castelo drove his vehicle over a curb and struck a tree during the traffic stop, police said.

Castelo ran to the Scottsdale Plaza Resort and entered the room of two hotel guests from Utah after fleeing the crash scene, authorities said. While in the room, Castelo stabbed the hotel guests with a knife, according to a police report.

The stabbing victims were transported to Scottsdale Healthcare Osborn hospital with serious injuries, but police said it appeared they would recover from their wounds.

Several police agencies responded to the hotel, including a helicopter and a tactical unit with Scottsdale police, authorities said.

Police eventually found Castelo on the resort and arrested him. He was booked into a Maricopa County Jail on suspicion of attempted murder, aggravated assault and other charges, according to the report.
