Workers at the Road Home Shelter found a man dead outside their facility Saturday night, police said.

The workers were checking the premises at 210 South Rio Grande Street (455 West) about 8:30 p.m. after letting people into the facility for the night, said Salt Lake Lt. Lamar Ewell. They found the man lying on the ground, reeking of mouthwash. He was unresponsive, so the staffers called for emergency help.

Firefighters responded but were unable to revive the man, Ewell said. He was taken by ambulance to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.
