As memorable as the 2008 prep swim championships were, don't be stunned if 2009 offers plenty of its own drama.

Several of the team races that were up for grabs this year could be toss-ups again next year, and if that happens, hang onto your hats.

In 5A, expect next season to be a swan song of sorts for Skyline.

Because the Eagles have been ticketed to move down to Class 4A at the end of the current UHSAA realignment cycle, 2009 could represent Skyline's final chance to rule the 5A meet.

On the girls side, that's all but a certainty, given the Eagles' copious depth and talent. On the boys side, Skyline will battle Brighton for the title.

Like Skyline's girls team, look for East to continue to rule 4A girls swimming. Though Shelby Bull will be gone, the Leopards bring back a hugely talented squad, which should be enough to hold off Timpview and Murray.

However, things should be much more intriguing in 4A on the boys side. Defending champ Springville loses most of its state contributors to graduation, and that could open the door for Snow Canyon, which loses some important seniors but has a really solid nucleus coming back, or Murray.

And then there's 3A.

Expect Park City and Judge to again lock horns on the girls side next season, and when it comes to the boys, expect two-time defending champ Ogden and Logan to tangle.
