Salt Lake City Police are investigating the Friday shooting of a 16-year-old boy.

Police say the boy was shot in the buttocks about 8 p.m. near 1900 West and 900 North, said Lt. Cal Kunz. Officers responded to emergency calls from people who said they heard gunshots about that time.

Kunz said the responding officers were unable to find any victims.

About 9 p.m., however, police were called by officials at LDS Hospital who were treating a teenager for a bullet wound. Officers responded to the hospital and learned the incident had occurred in Rose Park.

The incident is under investigation, Kunz said. Gang units are trying to learn whether the shooting is related to recent drive-by shootings in Salt Lake.
