Having lived through the 1950s and 1960s, I have seen the terrible price we paid as a country as we "lawfully" excluded the black population from our schools, restaurants and other venues. We then recognized our terrible mistake and corrected the wrongs. Now we are poised to make the same grievous error again.

I am distraught at the mean-spirited, punitive bills being considered by our Utah Legislature. Especially alarming is the bill to punish the children of illegal immigrants who have completed high school in Utah. How can we pick on this small group and call it anything but specific discrimination? Please. Do not pass these embarrassing, hurtful bills. Let's live a higher law and help these people.
