A truck driver was killed after a sheet of ice broke through the front windshield of his truck, striking the man in the head Tuesday morning.

Colin E. Harmston, 51, of Vernal, was headed north on state Route 45 near Naples, Uintah County, when he was killed, said Utah Highway Patrol trooper Cameron Roden.

The accident happened around 11:20 a.m., when a southbound water truck passed Harmston on the road.

"There was a sheet of ice or snow on top of that water truck that slid off," Roden said. "It came through the windshield and hit the driver in the head."

Harmston suffered massive head injuries and died at the scene.
