A proposal to make discharging a firearm inside city limits a felony offense did not make it out of its committee hearing on Tuesday.

HB110, sponsored by Rep. Neil Hansen, D-Ogden, ran into opposition from committee members who felt that discharging a weapon was already covered by current statutes, and may present problems for rural municipalities.

Rep. Curtis Oda, R-Clearfield, said that Hansen's bill "goes to far" and that a crime committed with a firearm was already addressed by federal laws.

The House Government Operations standing committee voted to table HB110.
