• "The Neil Simon Festival" is holding auditions for its 2008 summer season in Cedar City. The 2008 season features "Brighton Beach Memoirs" by Neil Simon, "Fools" by Neil Simon and "I Do! I Do!" by Tom Jones and Harvey Schmidt.
Auditions are being held in five locations: Los Angeles, on Feb. 15 as part of the Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival (where only festival registrants may audition, see www.kcactf-8.org.); on Feb. 22 in the Black Box Theatre of the Eccles Center, Dixie State College, St. George, 6 to 8 p.m.; on Feb. 23 in the Harris Theatre of the Alta Ham Fine Arts Building, University of Nevada, Las Vegas, from 1 to 4 p.m.; on Feb. 29, Thorley Recital Hall, Music Center, Southern Utah University, Cedar City, 6 to 8 p.m.; and on March 1, Room 101, Performing Arts Building, University of Utah, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Roles available for "Brighton Beach" include four females ages 13, 16, 38, and 40 and three males ages 15, 18, and 40. All characters are Brooklyn natives. "Fools" is a comic fable set in an Ukrainian village around 1890. Roles available include three females, ages ranging from 20 to 50, and seven males, ages ranging from 30 to 60. "I Do! I Do!" has already been cast.
Actors should bring a headshot and resume and come prepared with two contrasting 1-minute monologues (at least one from a Neil Simon play). Actors may be asked to read from the script. • The Phoenix Theatre Company will hold auditions for "The Sound of Music" on Feb. 19 and 20 from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at The Academy of Performing Arts Complex, 3188 S. 400 East. Age range is 5 to 100. Callbacks are Feb. 21 at 6:30 p.m.
Come prepared to sing 16 bars of an upbeat Broadway-style song. An accompanist will be provided. Actors will also be asked to read from the script, which will be provided.
