A West Valley City man was arrested after allegedly firing a gun during a family dispute and then stealing a Winder Dairy delivery truck carrying milk, eggs and cookies Wednesday night.

"Maybe he wanted to maintain provisions while he was on the lam," said West Valley City police Sgt. Scott Buchanan.

The 29-year-old man reportedly threatened family members with a rifle during an argument and fired a shot into the ceiling of a home near 4700 S. 5320 West, Buchanan said.

Police were responding to the dispute around 10:30 p.m. when a man with a rifle allegedly stole a delivery truck that was parked in front of a home a few blocks away.

An off-duty Sandy police officer spotted the truck, a large vehicle with a prominent logo, near 13400 S. Bangerter. Officers stopped the truck and arrested the man without any problems, Buchanan said.

No one was injured in either the dispute or the vehicle theft.
