CEDAR CITY — Authorities are investigating an early morning house fire that killed a woman.

Firefighters said a fire was reported at a modular home at 340 W. 3600 North in Enoch, Iron County, around 2 a.m. Thursday. A woman in her mid-60s was killed.

"Right now, it looks like she died as a result of the fire," Cedar City Fire Chief Paul Irons said. "She was in an area that looked to be where the fire originated."

The woman's name wasn't immediately released. Firefighters said her husband, who is in his mid-50s, was taken to a local hospital, where he was treated and released for burns on his hands and arms and smoke inhalation.

"He said he was asleep, they both were asleep in the bed, and she got up and went into that other room sometime during the night," Irons said.

The other room was what appeared to be a reading room where the fire started. Fire investigators are going over the home, trying to determine an exact cause. The woman died close to the starting point of the fire, and investigators said it was difficult to tell if she tried to put it out.

Irons said the fire appears to be accidental.
