A 17-year-old boy police say was under the influence of alcohol was arrested early Saturday following a high-speed chase on I-15.

The 100- to 120-mph chase began about 1 a.m. after a small car approached a Utah Highway Patrol trooper's car so quickly that its driver had to swerve to avoid hitting the squad car, said UHP spokesman Jeff Plank. The near-collision occurred in southbound lanes near 9000 South.

The trooper turned on his emergency lights and started chasing the car, which took the 10600 South exit and crashed, Plank said.

The car was rendered inoperable so the driver, three other juveniles and an adult got out and tried to run away, Plank said. All were unhurt and were quickly apprehended.

The driver was arrested and taken to a juvenile detention facility, Plank said.
