A 49-year-old man was hit and killed as he crossed North Temple on Sunday night.
The man was walking with a friend when he was struck by a pickup truck near 600 West just after 8:10 p.m., police said.
"The signal was already flashing don't walk," said Salt Lake police Lt. Craig Gleason. "His friend said, 'We can make it.' The friend didn't make the sprint, but our victim attempted to get across the roadway."
The man was hit just before making it to the sidewalk on the other side of the road, Gleason said. The man, whose name has not been released, died at the scene.
No citations were issued Sunday night, but Gleason said the investigation is ongoing.
