About 30 people had to be evacuated from a Salt Lake apartment building after a two-alarm fire broke out early Sunday morning.
When they arrived on scene at about 1:30 a.m., firefighters saw "heavy fire blowing out of the window" of a third-floor apartment at 133 S. 900 East, said Salt Lake Fire Deputy Chief Dan Andrus.
Nearly 40 firefighters worked to keep the fire contained to one apartment, and the blaze was under control by 1:56 a.m., he said.
One firefighter was treated for smoke inhalation after his air mask was dislodged, Andrus said. No other injuries were reported.
The American Red Cross is caring for five families that had to be relocated following the fire, Andrus said. He estimated damage at about $70,000.
