OREM — A 5-year-old girl's route to school has police in Orem concerned.

They got reports that the child was hitchhiking Tuesday after a spat with her mother.

She was picked up by two different drivers between 8 and 9 a.m. and eventually dropped off at Grandview Elementary School. But about 45 minutes in-between remain unaccounted for.

When calls started coming in saying a girl was seen in the streets of Orem with her thumb out, police responded.

But by the time they arrived, she was gone. She didn't reappear until she was dropped off at Grandview, apparently because she told the driver she needed to get to school.

Police interviewed the girl but she revealed little about what happened when she was picked up either time.
