Undocumented workers from south of our border should be shown respect. They are here illegally, but we Americans show far more tolerance to those who run red lights, tailgate and beat their wives than we do those who come to work and provide for their families. Surely there are many bad apples — but bad apples come in shades of dark, brown and white. When some of us discuss the undocumented, we do so with hate and disdain. When we can, we ought to lift them up, not just size them up. Encourage our leaders to help them gain legal status. Our country's melting pot is taking a long time to melt. We all want justice for others but mercy for ourselves.
