Following weeks of rampant speculation that he had been kicked off his high-school swim team, Orem coach Todd Mower confirmed Saturday morning that star senior Andrew Ballejos won't swim for Orem High at the 4A state championships next month.

"He's not swimming for Orem High School anymore," said Mower.

Ballejos, the two-time defending champ and former champ of the 50 free, played an integral role on the Tigers' championship-winning team of a year ago and was expected to star again this year.

His absence will have huge implications on how opposing teams — not to mention his own squad — will approach the upcoming 4A meet, which begins February 1.

Mower refused to disclose why Ballejos was dismissed from the team.

"I'm not able to go into it," he said.
