Federal prosecutors have asked that a trial for a former Layton physician charged with illegally distributing narcotic painkillers be delayed pending possibly more charges.

Paul Ray Taylor was scheduled to stand trial on Tuesday. He was indicted by a federal grand jury last November on two counts of distributing a controlled substance. Taylor has denied the charges.

According to the government's motion for delay, the investigation has yielded evidence that six of his patients have died of drug overdoses.
