Salt Lake County Sheriff's investigators today were trying to get to figure out how a man was shot.

Witnesses saw the 23-year-old victim run out of his apartment, near 4500 South 900 East, just before 3 a.m. after hearing two gunshots, said Salt Lake County Sheriff's Lt. Paul Jaroscak. Some neighbors reported hearing arguing in the room prior to the shooting.

The victim was shot in the shoulder and his chin was grazed, Jaroscak said.

"We're not sure what happened. He's not being too cooperative," he said.

The man was taken to a local hospital in serious but non-life threatening condition. Inside the apartment, detectives found evidence of a shooting in the bedroom. Two 9-mm shell casings were found as well as blood "all over the mattress," Jaroscak said. No weapon was recovered.

Investigators were still looking Tuesday into whether anyone else was in the room at the time of the shooting.
