HILL AIR FORCE BASE — Hill Air Force Base announced this week it has a new $700,000 radar tower that will improve communications between pilots and ground crews at Hill's massive Utah Test and Training Range in the northwest part of the state.

"Having this technology in our backyard will better prepare us to control hostile airspace when we deploy," Maj. Edward Spinelli said in a statement.

The new 77-foot tower will be used by the 729th Air Control Squadron, one of three active-duty air control squadrons in the United States.
