As I read Doug Robinson's column (Jan. 9), I had the overwhelming urge to send him a box of tissues. How un-American is the glass ceiling preventing a Mormon from being president? Doug cries. All too American — as blacks, women, Catholics and other ethnic and religious minorities can attest. The ongoing struggle for equal rights is the defining story of this country. Mitt Romney, through his campaign, is dragging a minority religion, Mormonism, into the mainstream of American politics. Enduring disparaging remarks and insults by the likes of Al Sharpton is the price Mormons will pay to break through that glass ceiling. Remember your struggle and be kind when, in the future, a Muslim, atheist or gay person runs for president.
